During his voyage to Australia, his stay there to observe the Transit of Venus, and his return via Batavia, Singapore and Ceylon. Several letters are written from the Observatory established at Jimbour, Queensland; there is also a newspaper cutting, undated, re the Observatory and plans for recording the transit (16 letters, c.210p).
Subjects include: Australian Aboriginals; variations in provincial railway gauges; R.L.J. Ellery, Astronomer at Melbourne Observatory; H.C. Russell, Astronomer at Sydney Observatory; Sir Arthur Kennedy, Governor; Sir Thomas Macllwraith, Premier.
