- The photographs in this series were taken during the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE). The AAE was an expedition headed by Douglas Mawson which explored the unchartered Antarctic coast south of Australia. The AAE photographs include views of Macquarie Island and Antarctica, members of the expedition, the huts and living quarters, plants, animals, geological specimens, and the ship Aurora. The photographers were members of the expedition, including Mawson himself, Charles Laseron, Percy E. Correll, and the official photographer, Frank Hurley.
