The photographs in this series were taken during the British Antarctic Expedition (BAE); otherwise known as the Nimrod Expedition. The BAE was an expedition headed by Ernest Shackleton. Douglas Mawson was part of the scientific team which carried out geological, zoological and meteorological work. His experience on this expedition led to him leading the AAE.
