Content Summary:
This consignment includes feature film and television scores, working notes and parts, along with initial sketches for cues. All composed and orchestrated by Bruce Smeaton and recorded both in Australia and overseas approximately between 1975-2005. The film scores are for productions such as Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith, the Ringo Starr film Iceman, the Steve Martin comedy Roxanne and the Meryl Streep film Plenty. His work for television includes compositions for Seven Little Australians (his first big break), Ben Hall, A Town Like Alice and The Eureka Stockade. Included also are a small number of issues of a newsletter for The Composers and Songwriters Guild of Australia, a group formed in 1973(?) in Sydney. Bruce Smeaton was the newsletter editor. Smeaton composed the score for the animated feature Grendel, Grendel, Grendal (Richard Meale played as associate percussionist). Included in the collection are the coloured story boards for the film and a copy of the music on CD.
