Four volumes containing leaders written by Slessor for The Sun, 4 January 1954 to 5 July 1957, comprise the major part of this series. There are also articles written by Slessor for The Sun in 1944 and April 1953, typescripts of talks given by Slessor on newspaper style (dated 21 June 1950 and 17 July 1954), newspaper cuttings selected and annotated by Slessor as examples of both good and poor writing, and a booklet of rules and style for composition issued by the Sydney Morning Herald (1957).
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The papers of the poet and journalist Kenneth Slessor were offered to the National Library by his brother Robin Slessor, executor of the will, after his death in 1971. The National Library purchased the papers in 1972. Eight additional consignments of papers received by the Library between 1979 and 2000 were variously purchased from Robin Slessor, Paul Slessor and Peter Elder.
