This series contains single copies of The American Standard, Les Annales, Liberty and Progress, The Listener, New York Tribune, United Empire, Science and Industry; publications of the English Speaking Union of the United States; News bulletins of the Foreign Policy Association (U.S.); political pamphlets and election dodgers; pamphlets on taxation and rating of land values; copies of legislation; speeches by Joseph Cook and Thomas Ewing on the Defence Bill of 1909, and David J. Gordon on the proposed transfer of powers from State to Commonwealth in 1915; Labour in Power by W.M. Hughes (1912) and the Official Report of the Fourth Commonwealth Political Labour Conference, Brisbane 1908; reports of the Conference of Australian Railways and Transport Authorities, Sydney 1932; and many travel pamphlets and brochures collected during the Brookes' trips overseas.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers of Herbert Brookes were presented to the National Library in April 1967 by his widow Ivy Deakin Brookes. In October 1967 she deposited her own extensive collection, and together they form the Brookes Papers.
