- The financial papers contain account books 1897, 1902, 1905-6, savings bank books 1904, and cheque butts 1896-98, and 1905-06, correspondence, maps and share certificates dealing with miming affairs from 1893 until 1942 with Mont Robinson, A. Harris and others; correspondence from 1941 until 1958 with brokers, J.B. Were and Co., and James Dunlop and Co., concerning investments; and accounts from solicitors, J.M. Smith and Emmerton from 1946 until 1959. Also included in the series are papers dealing with the Brookes' family interest in Nappee Wash Pty Ltd, including notices of meetings from 1950 until 1957, balance sheets, 1950, 1951, 1954, 1956 and 1957, and its annual report for 1957.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The papers of Herbert Brookes were presented to the National Library in April 1967 by his widow Ivy Deakin Brookes. In October 1967 she deposited her own extensive collection, and together they form the Brookes Papers.
