The Brown Society of Victoria, like similar societies in England, was formed to commemorate the work of the Manx poet T.E. Brown (1830-97). The series contains agenda and minutes of meetings, copies of Brown's writings, correspondence between Brookes and Brown's son Hugh, and daughters, Dora and Ethel, articles by Pattie Deakin, E. Littleton Groom, Brookes and others, photographs, programmes and press cuttings.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers of Herbert Brookes were presented to the National Library in April 1967 by his widow Ivy Deakin Brookes. In October 1967 she deposited her own extensive collection, and together they form the Brookes Papers.
