This is a small series containing a typescript copy of the rules of League of Nations Union (Victorian Division) adopted at its first meeting in 1921, a small amount of correspondence between 1923 and 1944, much of it with secretaries Mark Gardner, Constance Duncan and Nora Collisson, notices of meetings; a circular on the International Labour Organization (1923); financial statements; papers concerning the Bureau of Social and International Affairs which, after 1929, provided secretarial services for the Union and other groups.
There are also minutes of a small number of meetings during the 1930's, the first annual report of the League of Nations' Youth Movement in 1933, and the annual report and balance sheet of the League of Nations' Union for 1932-33 and for 1943-44.
The printed material includes an article The League in 1933 by P.D. Phillips and a report entitled League of Nations, etc presented to Parliament in 1921 by Senator E.D. Mullen, Australian representative at the First Assembly of the League of Nations.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The papers of Herbert Brookes were presented to the National Library in April 1967 by his widow Ivy Deakin Brookes. In October 1967 she deposited her own extensive collection, and together they form the Brookes Papers.
