Content Summary:

Ivy Brookes founded the International Club of Victoria in 1932, and was assisted by Jane McMillan, the organising secretary.

The series contains correspondence dating from 1932 until 1958 dealing with the formation and administration of the Club, the Centenary Pageant in 1934, the Pageant of Nations (1945), note-books of committee meetings (1946-47), account books (1947-51), financial statements for the periods 1938-41 and 1948-51, an incomplete set of reports and minutes of meetings.

In addition, there are papers concerning the disbanding of the Club in 1958 and the sale of the Club building in East Melbourne. Four scrap-books contain cuttings from 1932 until 1958.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers of Herbert Brookes were presented to the National Library in April 1967 by his widow Ivy Deakin Brookes. In October 1967 she deposited her own extensive collection, and together they form the Brookes Papers.
