Content Summary:

William Willis and E A Crome became friends in 1965, after Willis's solo raft voyage from Peru to Australia, via Samoa, in 1963-1964. At the time of the voyage, Willis was 71 years old. The Cromes met William Willis and his wife Teddy in Sydney in 1964. They maintained a correspondence until Willis's death at sea in 1968, and thereafter with Teddy Willis.

The series also includes realia, sketches, photographs and newspaper and magazine cuttings about Willis.

William Willis's manuscript 'An Angel on each shoulder, being an account of a voyage by raft across the Pacific in 1963' is held in the Manuscripts collection at MS 1974.

The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, also hold material relating to William Willis donated by or via E A Crome.
