Scrapbooks, 1843-1987

Component identifier:
Series 24
Content Summary:

Scrapbooks of newspaper cutting, mostly compiled by Crome and relating to aviation. Some scrapbooks also include correspondence, ephemera, photographs, and some photocopies of older articles.

Scrapbooks 9-61 are similar in format, using commercially available scrapbooks. These were compiled by Crome and many are captioned by him. News posters interleaved in some volumes have been transferred to Series 26.

Please note that a 1971 scrapbook compiled by Crome, in the same format as scrapbooks 9-61, is in the MS 1882, Papers of Norman Ellison, Series 9. The date or reason for transfer is not known.

The series also contains several scrapbooks (items 1-8) which are older and in different formats. Several were collected by Crome rather than compiled by him. Their provenance is unclear but are likely to have been purchased by Crome from a dealer. One scrapbook (folder 3) appears to have been given to Crome by his friend Wal Shiers.
