This Award was to acknowledge Clark's outstanding contributions in helping deaf people through the Deafness Forum, a body set up to represent different groups. Professor Clark chaired and initiated the first such body in Victoria in 1971, called the Deafness Foundation of Victoria which led to the Australian Deafness Council and later the Deafness Forum. Libby Harricks was a driving force in self help for deaf people.
