Content Summary:
Andrews' involvement in Aboriginal rights organisations spanned the years 1951-1968. This series includes a file of correspondence, including letters to and from Jessie Street, Charles Duguid and Ada Bromham. Also in this series is research material and an article written by Andrews on Aborigines and alcohol, Aboriginal Reconciliation material, an incomplete paper on the history of events leading to the 1967 referendum on Aboriginal civil rights, possibly written by Peter Sekuless, and a file of papers and photographs relating to Andrews' involvement in a 1967 Referendum Ceremony in 1997.
Immediate source of acquisition:
Shirley Andrews bequeathed her papers to Wendy Lowenstein and Lucy Stockdale. The papers were purchased by the Library from Lowenstein and Stockdale in 2002 and 2003 respectively. The audio-visual material held in the Oral History Section was received in 2005 from Stockdale.
