Dance instructions

Component identifier:
Series 13
Content Summary:
This series consists of largely undated files, notebooks, loose papers, publications and photocopies of articles, book extracts and complete publications containing instructions on specific dances and dance styles. The series commences with a number of files of papers which relate to a list received with the papers, some on specific types of dances (eg quadrilles, couples dances) and others from specific sources (eg Andrews' own dance cards and Peter Ellis' material). In some cases the files also contain correspondence. It should be noted that whilst this series is devoted to dance instruction material, dance instructions can also be found in other dance series, particularly series 9-11.
Immediate source of acquisition:
Shirley Andrews bequeathed her papers to Wendy Lowenstein and Lucy Stockdale. The papers were purchased by the Library from Lowenstein and Stockdale in 2002 and 2003 respectively. The audio-visual material held in the Oral History Section was received in 2005 from Stockdale.
