Content Summary:
Comprises typescript and manuscript drafts of writings in various formats by Paterson including verse, articles, radio talks, a children's book and a libretto. There are manuscript fragments of writings about his Boer War and Great War experiences, later used in his book Happy Dispatches, published in 1934. Drafts for a book of Paterson's verse entitled The animals Noah forgot, with illustrations by Norman Lindsay, published by Endeavour Press in 1933. Typescript drafts of chapters for Paterson's book Illalong children, comprising childhood reminiscences, which he wrote for his granddaughters, published in 1985. See also series 3 and 5.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The collection was retained by Paterson himself until his death in 1941, after which time it was held in custody by following generations of his family before being acquired by the National Library from his great-grandson.
