Typescripts of diary kept while Rivett was in Singapore as the ABC correspondeny in 1942. The diary begins with an account of his departure from Darwin on 5 January 1942, stopping in Surabaya and Jakarta. It includes news of the fall of Singapore which were sent back to Australia. The diary ends on 10 February 1942.
