Content Summary:
This large series contains copies of the research sources and Wilmot's research notes used in the writing of The Struggle for Europe. The source material includes notes of interviews with military commanders; transcripts of the "Fuehrer Conferences"; classified Allied army reports and battle plans; and scripts of relevant BBC radio broadcasts. Also included in this series are five drafts of The Struggle for Europe, the earliest drafts being entitled "The Great crusade", and a folder of correspondence with publishers William Collins Ltd.
Immediate source of acquisition:
This collection was presented to the National Library by Edith Wilmot in 1991 and arrived in Canberra in January 1992. It consists primarily of Chester Wilmot's papers, but also includes material added by Edith Wilmot in the years since Chester's death. A further transfer was received from the Wilmot family in 2024.
