Contained in this series is general correspondence and papers, much of which relates to Penberthy's musical career. There is correspondence with opera companies and other musical groups regarding performances of his works and with musicians, many of whom were personal friends. The main correspondents are Gwen Harwood, Bernard Heinze, Rex Hobcroft and Patrick Thomas. Other correspondents include Don Banks, Frank Callaway, Max Cooke, George Dreyfus Stephan Haag, Jeff Hanson, Vincent Plush, Ray Powell, Peter Sculthorpe, Jan Sedivka, Larry Sitsky, Jurek Shabelevsky, Peggy van Praagh, Felix Werder and Thomas Wood.

There are correspondence and papers relating to applications for numerous grants and fellowships, particularly with the Australia Council, some of which were successful. The processes involved in trying to interest people in performing particular works is reflected in the general correspondence.
