Component identifier:
Class MS Acc15.113
Content Summary:
MS Acc15.113 comprises letters and telegrams sent to the Rutledge family during the First World War, 1914-1918. The majority of the collection consists of letters sent by Thomas (Tom) Rutledge to his mother, Jean Rutledge. They include letters sent from Holsworthy, at sea, Maadi Camp, Gallipoli,Cairo, Port Said, the Soldiers Club at Kantara, and Europe. Also included are letters sent to Mrs Rutledge by her sister, Dame Alice Chisholm. The letters have been transcribed into the book 'Socks from Bungendore', edited by Martha Rutledge and William Rutledge. To accompany the material, there is a typed speech by Robert O'Neil who launched the book, Socks from Bungendore. The typescript gives a good summary of the letters and provides some valuable contextual information.
