Content Summary:

This poem by Shaw Neilson was published by his brother Frank Neilson as a small folder. It bears no imprint but appeared at Melbourne in 1943. It is in three states.

(a) Heavy cream paper. One sheet folded once to make folder of 4pp. Size 7" × 4". Lettered on cover: "Lines Written in Memory of Adam Lindsay Gordon by Shaw Neilson, 15 June 1938". This is enclosed by thin red line bordering the cover. The poem is printed inside; it is of six stanzas.

(b) Same format as above, with identical text, but lacking the red line bordering the cover.

(c) Later issue. Smaller format. Heavy cream paper as in preceding copies but folded to 7" × 4". Lettered on cover: "In Remembrance 'Having gone, my friends, where we all must go' Adam Lindsay Gordon". Printed on lower right hand corner of cover is: "Card designed by Frank Neilson". The lines printed on the covers of the preceding copies are repeated on the verso of this cover, together with "Inscribed with kind regards to J.K. Moir" printed below. The whole of the inside contents are surrounded by a triple line border in red.

The quotation is taken from Gordon's poem, 'Gone'. These three copies are preserved in quarter leather folder, together with three autograph letters from. Frank Neilson to J.K. Moir. Written during March 1943, they relate to the printing of these folders. In one he writes: "...Yes, I am getting 50 more copies". These would be issue "c". He also mentions in one letter that some copies had been printed without Shaw Neilson's name, and that he had to return them to the printer for correction. Any collector possessing one of these copies might describe it as a "uniquity".
