Content Summary:

(a) Copy conforming to "b". Presentation copy inscribed: "To James Devaney with good wishes from F. Neilson, 28.2.43".

(b) Copy conforming to "c".

With these copies: Letter from Shaw Neilson, 2pp, 26 August 1934, to James Devaney. In reference to Gordon he writes: "He certainly did imitate Englishmen of his time, but when one considers the country he lived in, the life he led, there should be some generosity. He had a good ear for music. He left us much we should praise".

There is also a letter from Neilson to J.K. Moir, 12 January 1936: "...I was never at Dingley Dell. I don't know exactly where it is. I have always been a great admirer of Gordon, although many of my best friends are inclined to rate him rather low. I think Gordon will be remembered when many others of our writers are forgotten". Both of these letters written at dictation but signed "J.S. Neilson".

Preserved in quarter leather folder, together with original pen drawing by Hugh McCrae of Gordon's home, "Dingley Dell". With this is a printed note by J.K. Moir with comment upon Gordon, upon whom he was an authority. Included also is a photograph of Frank Neilson inscribed "Myself when young".
