Inserted are three letters from Shaw Neilson to J.K. Moir, written at dictation, signed "J.S. Neilson". These letters make a number of references to the songs. Also included are copies of letters written by Shaw Neilson to the composer. Extracts:- "I am delighted to know that you are having some of my songs done at your recital. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend. I am so old and tired and I have to go to bed early every evening so as to get up on time to go to work next day...I am really conscious that you are doing me an honour. J.S. Neilson." 22.3.38 "I was listening on a very bad wireless set last night but I found much beauty in all the airs. I like 'The Orange Tree' and I think the two next best were 'In the Dim Countries' and 'For a Child'. It is a long time since I wrote some of these rhymes. I have forgotten the lines and the verses seem like foreigners to me. I am afraid there is a good deal of vagueness about some of them. I know that the critics used to complain about it." 30.3.38
