Shaw Neilson to James Devaney

Component identifier:
Series 5
Content Summary:

Letters chosen because of their relevance to certain of Neilson's poems. They are indicative of the friendly and literary bond which existed between them and they reveal also, the extent to which Neilson was dependent upon Devaney for advice and help in the recasting and perfecting of many of his verses. Although the letters tend to focus interest upon the title poems, the contents of the letters are often much diversified and Neilson brings in many items of personal interest. There is, at times, discussion of the business aspects of some of Neilson's books. They could have been bound up in bulk with other of Neilson's letters but I prefer to include them in this manner as I think it makes relevant material more readily accessible.

Each item is bound up in quarter leather. Included in the folders are other items including typescripts, photographs, news clippings, etc.
