Component identifier:
Item 70
Content Summary:

A small collection of association interest.

(a) Six letters from Neilson to Harrington. One thanking his friend for the offer to read aloud to him and arranging the time and place. Other of the letters are concerned with Neilson's desire that Harrington should seek a literary pension.

(b) Two letters from Neilson to J.K. Moir on the subject of Harrington's pension, urging Moir to sponsor the proposal.

(c) Manuscript (13pp) by Harrington, relating to recollections of meetings with Neilson and their conversations. Mentions in brief that Neilson could have been published in England and that Mrs Dyer would have been willing to promote this but there were difficulties about the copyrights. Neilson remarked: "Ted, never sell your copyright!" There are many references to Mrs Dyer and her kindness to Neilson in ways not generally known. There is a long commentary upon Neilson's poem Ballad of Remembrance, or Englishman's Defence.

(d) Manuscript of Harrington's poem "Ballad of Discontent".

(e) Letters from various correspondents to Harrington: Will Lawson, W.E. FitzHenry and Mrs M. O'Flynn: Hours Spent with Shaw Neilson. There are also letters from Harrington to H.F. Chaplin included.

Tipped into quarter-leather album.
