The letters contain much by Frank Neilson on personal and family matters, and are of general Neilsonian interest.

Francis McFarlane Neilson [he was always known as "Frank" and so signed his letters] was killed in an accident at Merbein, Victoria, 15 July 1961. At the time of his death he was in possession of certain of Shaw Neilson's papers. The custodian of the papers, Mr John McKimm, has not yet made any decision as to their disposition.

In the same album as the above is: James Devaney to H.F. Chaplin. Correspondence, etc. Letters written between 1953-1963, together with copies of H.F.C.'s replies. Although the contents are principally about matters related to Shaw Neilson, the letters have general and literary interest also. Devaney's personal notes upon his friendship with Shaw Neilson are authoritative and valuable.
