Brennan in his brochure stated his qualifications, and his impressive record of achievements. He was supported by testimonials from the Vice-Chancellor, and five of the Professors at the University of Sydney. Professor Woodhouse described Brennan as "the most brilliant scholar ever turned out by this University". Professor McCallum wrote: "Mr Brennan is altogether a remarkable man". Professor Peden claimed that Brennan was entitled to rank high among the scholars of the world and that in the domain of pure scholarship "his aptitude for such work is little, if at all, short of genius".
