Tipped in is page from Dr Noehden's German Grammar, which exhibits German prose in varying styles of writing, customary in Germany at time of publication. Brennan has translated one passage (in pencil) but has written it in contemporary script.
Horne was one of the "Bodley Head" poets: one of the group which included Arthur Symons, Ernest Dowson, Francis Thompson, William Watson, W.B. Yeats and others of the "Yellow Book" period, to whom, in his youth, Brennan had leanings.
