Inserted: Autograph letter from Chris: Brennan to A.G. Stephens, 1p, 6th September 1927. "Dear A.G.S. I was waiting to get hold of Shaw Neilson's work again - not having seen it now for some years. However, as you seem to be in a hurry, I send the following a-peu-près 'In Shaw Neilson's verse at its best I find delicate imagining, limpid feeling, and a pure melody - a charm of wood-notes' "I'll drop in on you again one of these times: I get too many evenings by myself...Yours ever, C.B."
This "blurb" does not sound at all like Brennan, nevertheless, A.G.S. printed it upon the advertisement leaf in this copy. [See number 71 for further reference.]
Tipped in is dictated letter from Shaw Neilson to James Devaney, 3pp, signed "J.S. Neilson" in which after comment upon various poets, he continues: "Green has I believe, lately written a life of Brennan. Brennan had indeed a wonderful mind, but A.G.S. who was a great friend of his did not seem to take his later verse very seriously. He, Brennan had a splendid ear, which some of our classic poets do not possess".
Also inserted in this book is carbon copy of a letter from A.G.S. to Brennan. 1p, 1st March 1927.
