Redundancy
- Component identifier:
- Series 10
- Content Summary:
- The issue of redundancy assumed importance in 1979 with an announcement by BPC that the viable life of phosphate deposits on the island was only four years and that operations on the island would terminate in mid 1983. Although this estimate was later revised the realization that future employment was in doubt led to the accumulation of material on redundancy and the beginning of negotiations for an equitable redundancy agreement with management. The series contains a number of files with background information on redundancy including policies and agreements of other organizations. Other files contain the results of Questionnaires completed by members, claims and proposals, discussions with government and management and the decision handed down by the Arbitrator in 1981.
