This series consists of correspondence exchanged between Allan Fraser and his constituents in Eden-Monaro from 1943 until 1972. Being a rural seat a joining the Australian Capital Territory, the subjects discussed were those affecting country people in the latter years of World War II; and in the period of post-war reconstruction; the establishment of the Snowy Mountains Authority in 1949 and the subsequent employment of large numbers of migrants from Europe in the Cooma area over the next twenty years. The correspondence of the 1950's and the 1960's reflected the economic stability of Australia, the prosperity of the rural sector and the involvement of Australia in the Vietnam war. Social Service enquires were frequent.
This group of letters complements those received by the Library in 1969 and 1979. In 1966 Allan Fraser said "In an average week my secretary and I would deal with at least 130 new cases." The number of letters in the collection is a very small portion of this workload.
