Correspondence, reports from those on grants, regulations, applications. Searle Travel Grants were first offered in 1904 when Messrs. G. D. Searle Co. Ltd. (England) offered a £2000 grant to be awarded annually for three years. The grants were to enable clinicians and workers in the fields of obstetrics and gynaecology and endocrinology to undertake research and study in these fields. The grants were renewed each year. In 1971, the scope was widened to encompass Internal Medicine.

In 1977 the purpose of the grant was changed to further research in Psychiatry.
