Content Summary:
This material relates to Indian Independence (1946), the lead up and the aftermath, as well as containing substantial material on Gandhi. It also contains a survey of the Indian press, undertaken by Wigmore upon his arrival in India on the 3/1/45, for the purposes of determining the requirements of the Australian Information Service. Some confidential material was added in 1977 to the collection, which relates to the Simla Conference of May, 1946. Material added in 1978 is mostly confidential reports and comments on press conferences of 1946 which were sent to the Australian High Commission in Delhi.
