Series 5
Content Summary:

Terry's photographic collection comprises 28 albums of negatives, 37 small boxes of prints, 5 envelopes of further assorted prints, a book of early personal and family photos, and framed photographs and certificates.

Although the strength of the collection is in its documentation of Terry's expeditions and the inland areas he visited, there also a variety of other material illustrating most periods and interests of Terry's life; for example his archaeological finds at Thomas Reservoir, and his tours of New Caledonia and Fiji. The period of his youth spent in N.S.W. and Western Queensland is also illustrated.

This component of the Terry collection comprises mainly negatives and prints. Terry's life from his boyhood through to old age are documented. While there is a particular strength in pictures of Terry's expeditions to central and Western Australia, also included are portraits; personal and family photographs; and varied locations including England, Russia and the Pacific as well as Australia.

Seven manuscript boxes of negatives and prints are located in the Manuscript Collection at MS 611 (boxes 5-11). There is additionally a quantity of approximately three hundred prints located in the Pictorial Section. Much of the latter material consists of enlargements mounted by Kodak for a Terry photographic exhibition display in Australian capital cities in 1961. A separate listing of material held by the Pictorial Section is appended to this list.

The print material mostly been made from negatives in this series. Copyright in Terry photographs is held by the National Library.
