Series 4
Content Summary:
In 1961 the Australian Advisory Council on Bibliographical Services (AACOBS) commissioned a survey of the resources of Australian libraries, which was carried out by Maurice Tauber of Columbia University. Although very lengthy, his report did not meet the requirements of AACOBS and in 1963 it asked Burmester to visit libraries and discuss collection weaknesses, cooperative collecting and specialising. He recommended the establishment of a Book Resources Development Committee and in December 1963 AACOBS promptly set up a committee, with Burmester as chairman. It presented an interim report in June 1964 and a final report, known as the Burmester Report, in October 1965.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were donated by C.A. Burmester in many instalments between 1976 and 1989.
