Principal Librarian, Development Services, 1966-1967

Containers:
Box 6-7
Component identifier:
Series 6
Content Summary:

In 1965 there was a reorganisation of the National Library staff. The Library was divided into six sections, with Development Services replacing the Acquisition Division and User Services replacing the Reference and Film Divisions. In February 1966 Burmester was appointed Principal Librarian, Development Services, while Dan Sprod took over as Principal Librarian, User Services. Burmester was thus able to concentrate on the formulation of the Library's acquisition policy, at a time when the collections were growing rapidly, and together with Harold White seek and acquire a series of outstanding formed collections, both in Australia and overseas.

This small series contains minutes that Burmester wrote to White and Athol Johnson, the Assistant National Librarian, some letters, and papers on American resources and 18th century English imprints. One letter was written by Rex Nan Kivell.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were donated by C.A. Burmester in many instalments between 1976 and 1989.
