Addresses, speeches and broadcasts, 1951-1966

Component identifier:
Series 12
Content Summary:
These are typescript documents falling into this category, and which were arranged and numbered in chronological order by Cleland. Most were probably written by Cleland himself, but some have clearly been written for him, particularly when performing the honours at the opening of an institution with which he was unfamiliar. There are certain idealistic themes which appear several times, indeed had appeared earlier in his ABC broadcasts 1937-1939 (Series 1), such as his ‘Seven pillars of public service’ suggested by John Ruskin’s ‘Seven pillars of architecture’. (Files arranged and folios numbered by Donald Cleland).
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers of Sir Donald Cleland were donated to the Library by Dame Rachel Cleland in 2002.
