The Australian and New Zealand Federation of Animal Societies was established in 1980 with the principal aim and objective of promoting the cause of animal rights and welfare throughout Australia and New Zealand. Singer was appointed its first Chairman and served subsequently (as President and Vice-President) for many years.

This series includes copies of the Federation's constitution, policy statements, correspondence, minutes, reports, memoranda, draft codes, press releases and newspaper cuttings.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were donated by Professor Singer in 1999 under the Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme [Cultural Gifts Program]
