- Content Summary:
- Dulcie Holland was organising a concert for Cammeray Music Club, and asked me to write a variation on a theme she would send me; when it arrived it was not an original theme, as I'd hoped, but just Click go the Shears, which I've always found rather irritating. I was aware of the 'Angry Young Men' involved in British theatre at the time and thought I'd emulate them. The other variations were by Dulcie and Miriam Hyde. Later I showed the piece to Priaulx Rainier, and she suggested the octave displacement.
