- Stuart Challender, then artistic director of The Seymour Group, asked me to write a work for Joan Carden; she had recently returned to Australia, and he felt she should be heard here in contemporary repertoire. Joan Carden premiered The Owl in 1983, in a semi-staged performance with The Seymour Group and Stuart Challender, and sang it in 2001 with members of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra conducted by Simone Young.
