Scott retired from the Chair of History at the University of Melbourne in 1936, and died on 6 December 1939. Cuttings from various Australian newspaper reporting and commenting upon these two events, as well as a funeral records, obituary notices, drafts of entries for Who's Who and obituaries from Historical Studies, The Austral-Asiatic Bulletin, The Australian Journal of Science, and D.H. Rankin's The Spirit that lives: Australians all make up the series.

- The papers of Sir Ernest and Lady Scott, together with a small number of books, were presented to the Library in 1958 by Miss Diana Dyason, Lady Scott's niece. They had been examined by Lady Scott in 1956, the year before her death, and many items carry her explanatory notes.
