The series contains letters and telegrams, expressing sympathy and admiration, which were received by Lady Scott following her husband's death on 6 December 1939. They include notes from Scott's academic colleagues, parliamentarians, friends in England and the United States, the Melbourne University Council, associations and clubs. The letters are arranged alphabetically by author.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers of Sir Ernest and Lady Scott, together with a small number of books, were presented to the Library in 1958 by Miss Diana Dyason, Lady Scott's niece. They had been examined by Lady Scott in 1956, the year before her death, and many items carry her explanatory notes.
