Much of this series consists of correspondence between John Allan, H. S. Lawson and F. E. Old during the political crisis of 1923 (items 1-152). The remainder of the series concerns his portfolio of Attorney-General (1924-1927) during which period George Swinburne resigned as a member of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria following Willetts Sawyer's report on the operations of the Commission. His correspondents included Sir John Monash, Sir Harold Clapp, George Swinburne and Willetts Sawyer (items 153-612).

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were received from the family of Sir Frederic Eggleston after his death in 1954.
