The Red Rooster Press was formed in 1978 by Hugh Anderson as a family publishing business. Its main aim was to publish new editions of worthwhile historical and literary reference works, both recent and old, particularly those relating to Victoria.

The series consists of correspondence, book reviews, invoices, printing quotes and costings, news cuttings, journal articles, reports, royalty statements, and memoranda of agreement. The main correspondents are printing companies and other publishers including Pan, Thomas Nelson and William Collins, the Australia Council Literature Board in relation to grants and subsidies and various other organisations with submissions for new projects. Individual correspondents include John Meredith, Rex Whalan and Guy Featherstone.
