Content Summary:

Charles Thatcher's gold-digger songbook by Hugh Anderson was published by Red Rooster Press in 1980. Charles Thatcher, (1831-1878) was a popular entertainer on the Victorian goldfields in the 1850s and 1860s. He composed his own texts, usually to existing tunes and both described and satirized many aspects of life on the goldfields. Charles Thatcher published compilations of his own songs, such as Thatcher's colonial songster (1857) and Thatcher's colonial minstrel (1859). Hugh Anderson also published a biography of Charles Thatcher, The colonial minstrel, in 1960.

The series consists of correspondence, drafts, a typescript of verse and manuscript of the music and design work.
