Miska Hauser, (1822-1887) a child prodigy violinist, was born in Pressburg, Hungary. After his education at the Vienna Conservatorium he began concert tours in Europe at the age of 18. He wrote numerous letters to Europe describing his experiences and these were published regularly in the Ost-Deutsche Post in Austria and then as a collection with the title Aus dem wanderbuche eines osterreichischen virtuosen (1859 and 1860). His 28 letters written during his four years in Australia make up the text of this book.
