Content Summary:
Bunning was President of the Trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 1974-77. This series consists of a volume of photographs taken at the opening of the Modern Masters Art Exhibition in April 1975 and a cutting book relating to the controversy surrounding the award of the Archibald Prize to John Bloomfield in 1976. The award was withdrawn and given instead to Kevin Connor after the Trustees had decided that the painting by Bloomfield did not comply with a condition of the prize, namely, that the portrait must be painted from life.
Immediate source of acquisition:
Walter Bunning presented his papers to the National Library in December 1976, ten months before his death.
