Content Summary:

Ward kept a few papers from his childhood and early adult life. There are no papers, however, on his pre-War teaching career or his military service during World War II. The series contains reports, a few letters, cuttings and programs. His Master of Arts thesis was entitled ‘Genesis and nature of the social, political and historical content of English poetry between the two world wars, with articular reference to the works of Pound, Eliot and Auden'.

Some other early papers can be found in Series 2 and 3.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The bulk of the papers were purchased from Russel Ward in 1988. Following his death in 1995, a further five cartons of papers were donated by his family.
