Book Reviews, 1946-1991

Component identifier:
Series 25
Content Summary:

Ward began writing book reviews for newspapers while working as a schoolteacher in Sydney after World War II. He wrote reviews for both newspapers and learned journals for virtually the rest of his life, but the coverage in his papers is very uneven. The early Files mostly contain newspaper cuttings, whereas in the 1980s he retained handwritten and typescript drafts, as well as the published reviews.

Correspondence about book reviews from 1969 onwards is in Series 1.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The bulk of the papers were purchased from Russel Ward in 1988. Following his death in 1995, a further five cartons of papers were donated by his family.
