McGuire published a great many articles throughout his life in a variety of literary and Catholic periodicals and newspapers including The Argus, Australian quarterly, The English review, Catholic herald, Columbia, America, The sign, Twentieth century, The Herald, and The Advertiser. There are articles on international affairs, the United Nations, migration, and Australian politics as well as reports on the Spanish Civil War (filed as a correspondent with the Catholic Herald in London). The files include manuscript and typescript drafts, newpaper cuttings and entire copies of journals. Some files also include correspondence and supporting documents.

- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The collection was donated to the Library by Frances McGuire in 1980, 1984 and 1993. A small quantity of material from the 1980 instalment was purchased by the Library. Paul McGuire destroyed parts of his papers (particularly relating to the 1939-45 War) shortly before his death.
